Connect childhood to your roots: Ministry of Education and MyGov launch ‘Baalpan ki Kavita’ competition

New Delhi | Education Desk — Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with MyGov has launched the “Baalpan ki Kavita” initiative. This unique initiative aims to make education more enjoyable and culturally rich by connecting young children with poems and traditional nursery rhymes written in Indian languages in their early years.

According to Section 4.11 of the New Education Policy (NEP), it is clear that young children learn even complex concepts more easily in their mother tongue or local language. Currently, children in pre-school and early classes learn English poems that are not related to their environment or culture.

The “Bachpan ki Kavita” initiative aims to compile and disseminate traditional or newly-composed poems in Hindi, regional languages and English, thereby promoting play and activity-based learning in the early education of children.

All citizens are invited to participate in “Baalpan ki Kavita” competition. Interested participants can register on the MyGov InnovateIndia portal (https://innovateindia.mygov.in/). There is no entry fee for this activity.

Participants can send poems suitable for children in the age group of 3 to 8 years. Poems can be for pre-school/balvatika, class 1 and class 2. Topics can include nature, animals, festivals, family, transport, water, health, sports etc. Poems should be simple, lyrical, interesting and between 30 to 100 words (4 to 12 lines).

Poems can be self-composed, or prevalent in local folk literature. If the poem is by another author, it is mandatory to give due credit. Selected poems will be published on NCERT, CBSE, KVS, NVS, SCERTs and other educational platforms, benefiting teachers and students across the country.

The last date for participation in the competition is 22 April 2025. No entries received after this date will be considered. The quality and educational suitability of all entries will be checked by expert committees.

Participants must ensure that their MyGov profile is fully updated, with correct information such as name, email and mobile number. Participants of selected entries will be contacted through the same details.

The winners will be given a “Certificate of Contribution” and a suitable cash reward. The prize money will be provided only through electronic bank transfer. For this, the winners will have to submit their bank details.

The poems should not contain any objectionable, inflammatory or inappropriate content. If a participant tries to influence the selection process or gives false information, his/her entry may be canceled. The jurisdiction of all disputes will be Delhi only.

“Bachpan Ki Kavita” is a national level cultural and educational initiative that not only connects children with language and poetry, but also connects them deeply with their culture. This is an opportunity for all those citizens who wish to dedicate their words to the confluence of education and culture.

Ministry of Education and MyGov appeal to all citizens to participate in this campaign to create a rich educational repository for young children rooted in Indian values.
