The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued two important notifications—TRG-3/2025 and TRG-2/2025—on April 1, 2025. These notifications make professional development mandatory for principals and teachers of all CBSE affiliated schools.
This CBSE initiative has been taken to ensure quality and accountability in teacher development under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST).
According to the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework released by CBSE, all teachers will have to undergo a minimum of 50 hours of training every year. Out of this, 25 hours of training will be provided by CBSE or a government training institute and 25 hours will be in-house or school-complex based training. This training will be based on the three main parameters given below:
Annual CPD Training Breakdown
Training Area |
Hours |
---|---|
Core Values and Ethics |
12 hours |
Knowledge and Practice |
24 hours |
Professional Growth and Development |
14 hours |
CBSE has designed this training framework in such a way that teachers can work in accordance with the standards of NPST and achieve better student learning outcomes. Along with this, academic activities have also been recognized as training hours in the CPD guidelines. These include:
- Assessment work of board examinations (Class 10 and 12)
- Practical examiner duties
- Research projects and presentations
- Participation in CBSE conferences
- E-content and CBP development
- Curriculum review and overview of DD PM e-Vidya channel (CBSE 15)
All these activities will be counted as CPD hours, as prescribed in the notification.
The annual training theme of 2025 will be ‘STEM Education’
Keeping in mind India’s growing knowledge-based economy, CBSE has declared STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) as the annual training theme for 2025. Its aim is to prepare teachers to incorporate experiential, question-based and interdisciplinary teaching methods in the classroom.
CBSE has urged schools to organize District Level Deliberations (DLDs) on STEM subjects. Its objective is that teachers discuss STEM pedagogy among themselves, share best practices and promote innovation at the local level.
CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to ensure compliance with these new guidelines and implement this transformative teaching approach in their schools. Heads of schools are expected to act as change leaders and promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
